UCI does not require travelers or travel arrangers to use any particular method or tool for booking airfare or other types of travel. However, the Connexxus Travel Portal is highly recommended and supported by the university.
ConnexUC (formally known as Connexxus) is the UC managed travel program is a secure Web portal for booking university business travel. It automatically gives you access to UC negotiated prices for airfare, a cost savings to the university, hotels, and car rentals. ConnexUC also provides a UC employee discount on select California rail travel.
Active employees of UCI have access to ConnexUC. Employees - use your UCInetID and password to log on.
Note: Contingent workers do not have access to ConnexUC. Please have a department employee book travel for you.
Use this guide to rent a car for university business travel. UC G-28 Travel Regulations allows booking up to an intermediate/mid size car or smaller from one of the rental car companies with a contract with the University of California: Enterprise, Hertz, National, Dollar, or Thrifty. The discounted negotiated rates include the insurances and free vehicle upgrade when available - a cost savings to the university.
Depending on the location and duration of your trip, you will use either a per diem rate (for international trips or domestic assignments over 30 days) or a set Meal and Incidental Expenses (M&IE) maximum.
Federal Travel Regulations require that U.S. carriers must be used for travel that is to be reimbursed from federal grants and contracts. This policy is called the Fly America Act.
Business Travel Accident Insurance provides coverage for a wide variety of accidents and incidents to official university business travelers when away from the campus or primary workplace.
When on UCI official business, transportation to and from the airport is reimbursable. This includes cars, rideshares, and shuttles.
